This trip would like to bring you closer to the diversity or the many faces of Ecuador. You visit the north of Quito, hike on two beautiful crater lakes, get to know the pretty villages, landscapes and one or the other of the handicrafts. The Avenue of the Volcanoes takes you to the foot of Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano in the world. The Indian market is colourful, lively and interesting, where the Indians from the surrounding valleys stock up on food and goods for the coming week or sell their products. From Riobamba we continue to the south of Ecuador, to Cuenca. Cuenca, the third largest city in Ecuador, has magnificent colonial buildings. Morning guided tour of Quito’s old town. The historic center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.

You travel north, traverse the equator line, the middle of the world, visit Cayambe and Peguche. One of the largest markets takes place in Otavalo on Saturdays, where handicrafts, beautiful weaving and much more can be seen. As you continue through small villages at the foot of the imposing Imbabura volcano, you will get some insight into the life of the farmers. San Antonio de Ibarra is known for its wood carvings.

In the morning you hike about 3 hours on the ‘Afro-Ecuadorean walk’, which leads through the valleys of this rather dry region. The area is framed by the Andes mountains. Relax in the Chachimbiro hot springs before returning to your accommodation later in the afternoon.

Another hike (about 2 hours), this time at the beautiful Cuicocha Lagoon, before continuing south of Quito. The journey leads through the beautiful landscape of the highlands via Cayambe and Sangolquí to Machachi. There are several volcanoes in this region, such as Sincholagua 4893 m, Rumiñahui 4712 m, Pasochoa 4200 m, Corazón 4788 m, Illiniza 5263 m and a little further away Cotopaxi 5897 m, at the foot of which you will hike the next day.

In the morning drive to the Cotopaxi National Park, where you will hike for around 3 hours and get to know the flora. If you feel like it, you can climb up to the 4800 m high Cotopaxi hut, the Refugio José Rivas. In the afternoon you travel to Riobamba via Latacunga and Ambato.

On the onward journey from Riobamba to Cuenca, the landscape changes. The route leads via the Panamericana to Alausi, then on to Ingapirca. where you will visit the Inca ruins before reaching the pretty colonial city of Cuenca in the evening.

Today you will discover the city of Cuenca, the old town, the promenade on the banks of the Rio Tomebamba and the flower market on the guided tour. Free afternoon.

In the morning we go to the Cajas National Park, which impresses with its lovely landscape, small lakes and the hilly Andean landscape. The hike along the hiking trails takes about 2 hours. You then leave the highlands, you travel through several climate and vegetation zones down to sea level, to the port city of Guayaquil. A fascinating and varied route. In Guayaquil, before dinner, there is still some time for a guided stroll through Las Peñas, the colonial part of the city, and along the boulevard El Malecon.

A new adventure, a unique experience awaits – staying in Galápagos! Morning flight to Galápagos. Upon arrival, transfer from Baltra Airport to Santa Cruz. In the afternoon visit the Santa Cruz Highlands, the Giant Tortoise Sanctuary and the Charles Darwin Research Station. You will stay overnight in Puerto Ayora, where about half of the 15,000 inhabitants of the Galápagos archipelago live.

Today you take a day trip by boat and get to know the islands of North Seymour, Plazas and Bartolomé. In the afternoon return to Puerto Ayora. On the islands you can admire countless animals up close, such as sea lions, blue-footed boobies, masked boobies, frigate birds, sea and land iguanas, turtles… just to name a few. Together with the unique flora, fascinating landscape and interesting history, the Galápagos Islands are a unique experience.

Morning hike to Tortuga Bay, considered one of the most beautiful bays in Galápagos. You will see gulls, pelicans and marine iguanas, among others. In the early afternoon, the scheduled speedboat will take you to Isabela Island, the largest island in the Galápagos. The cooled lava masses from active shield volcanoes cover the island. Isabela is one of the few inhabited islands.

First we drive to El Cura to the park entrance of the Sierra Negra volcano. You walk across the highlands to the rim of the crater, within the crater lies the volcano de Azufre (sulphur volcano). The colorful landscape and the rising clouds of smoke are impressive. In the afternoon return to Puerto Villamil. Walking time approx. 5 hours.

We go to the Wall of Tears (by car or by bike). There used to be a prison camp there. The “Wall of Tears”, a 150 m long wall made of lava blocks, which was built by the convicts, reminds us of this time. Then, in Tintoreras, a special spot on Isabela, you’ll spot penguins, blue-footed boobies, pelicans, sea lions, and maybe you’ll spot sharks in the waters too.

Early morning speedboat ride back to Santa Cruz. Upon arrival in Puerto Ayora, transfer to Baltra Airport and flight back to Guayaquil. Shuttle bus transfer to the hotel and rest of the day at leisure.
