Lima is the capital of Peru located on the country’s arid Pacific coast. Despite the fact that its colonial center has been preserved, it is a bustling metropolis and one of the largest cities in South America. The Larco Museum houses a collection of pre-Columbian art and the Museo de la Nación traces the history of Peru’s ancient civilizations. The Plaza de Armas and the 16th century cathedral are the core of the old center of Lima
Paracas is a city on the west coast of Peru. It is known for its beaches, such as El Chaco, located in the sheltered bay of Paracas. The city is a departure point to the uninhabited Ballestas Islands, home to sea lions, pelicans, and Humboldt penguins. The rugged Paracas National Reserve is home to abundant wildlife and stretches across desert, ocean, islands, and the Paracas peninsula. The huge prehistoric geoglyph of the Paracas Candelabra on the peninsula is etched into the side of a hill.
Nazca is an archaeological culture of Ancient Peru that basically developed in the valleys of the current department of Ica, around the 1st century and declined in the 7th century. Its center was located in Cahuachi, on the left bank of the Rio Grande, in the current province of Nazca. Its territory came to cover from Chincha in the north, to Arequipa in the south. Until the sixth century AD. C., increased their contacts with the Andean zone, even reaching the highlands of Ayacucho. This contact was especially important in the formation of the Huari culture.
Puno is a city in southern Peru located next to Lake Titicaca, one of the largest lakes in South America and the highest navigable body of water in the world. The city is a regional commercial center and is also considered the “folk capital” of Peru, for its traditional festivals with lively music and dance performances. Iconic sites include the Puno Cathedral, a baroque-style Andean construction, and the 19th-century Yavarí steamship (now a hostel).
Cuzco is a city in the Peruvian Andes that was the capital of the Inca Empire and is known for its archaeological remains and Spanish colonial architecture. The Plaza de Armas is the center of the ancient city, with galleries, carved wooden balconies and ruins of Inca walls. The convent of Santo Domingo, in the Baroque style, was built on top of the Inca Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha) and has archaeological remains of Inca stonework.
