You are here:

YOUR DREAM OF THE SIX-THOUSAND: Trekking in the Cordillera Urubamba Inca Culture to Machu Picchu and Ascension Nevado Chachani 6076 m

Peru is the country that can completely satisfy all human tastes, preferences and energy! The people there are extremely earthy, humble and kind – a mentality too close to the senses of much of humanity. It is unique to Peru – Nature, mysticism and unparalleled world cultural and historical heritage!

Lima is the capital: of Peru located on the arid Pacific coast of the country. Although its colonial center is preserved, it is an overflowing metropolis and one of the largest cities in South America. The Larco Museum houses a collection of pre-Columbian art and the Museum of the Nation traces the history of the ancient civilizations of Peru. The Plaza de Armas and the 16th century cathedral are the core of the old center of Lima.

What mountaineer doesn’t dream of crossing the 6000 meter mark? The Nevado Chachani in southern Peru is the ideal mountain for this, as it is considered one of the lightest six-thousanders in the world. But you still don’t get your summit. It demands stamina, sure-footedness and, depending on the conditions, crampons are also used. Good acclimatization is also important. We get these from a scenic six-day tent trekking in the Cordillera Urubamba near Cusco. We enjoy the seclusion and fantastic views in the mountains. Of course, cultural points should not be missing on the program when traveling to a country like Peru. We visit the ancient Inca capital Cusco as well as the ancient salt mines of Maras and take a day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Machu Picchu. The final is in Arequipa with its beautiful colonial old town. Always in sight: our big goal, the Nevado Chachani, 6076 m, which we will climb in two days with a high camp at approx. 5000 meters. The trip ends in the capital Lima.

The highlights:

  • Tent trekking and easy high-altitude tour, 14 days
  • Lima and the Inca capital Cusco
  • Ancient cultural landscape in the Urubamba Valley
  • The ancient salt terraces of Maras
  • Trekking in the lake-rich Cordillera Urubamba
  • A full day in the “lost city” Machu Picchu
  • Arequipa: Colonial town made of white tuff
  • One of the lightest six-thousanders
  • Summit possibility, u. a .:
  • Volcano Chachani, 6076 m

Chachani Volcano: The Chachani is a volcano located 55 km from the city of Arequipa, in southern Peru. Despite its considerable height, snow is very scarce at its summit, due to the extreme atmospheric dryness prevailing in the western slope of the Andes of that region.

Day trip to Machu Picchu at 2380 meters. Hidden in the mountain jungle, the mysterious city of the Incas was only rediscovered by the American Hirham Bingham in 1911. Her unique location and beauty brought her not only the status of a “World Heritage Site”, but also the nickname “archaeological gem” of South America. To date, Machu Picchu can only be reached via a railway line and subsequent bus transfer. After a detailed tour we descend to Aguas Calientes and take the train back to Ollantaytambo and from there by bus to Cusco.

We start the ascent in the dark. You reach a saddle and finally the three summit crosses of the Nevado Chachani, a proud 6076 meters high, over moderately inclined flanks with blocks and rubble. Snow fields can make the ascent difficult. The “white city” lies deep below, mountain ranges are lined up endlessly. Descent and journey by jeep and bus to the hotel in Arequipa. Together we celebrate the hopefully successful conclusion of the trip and say goodbye to our guide.
