It is mandatory to take out mountain cost insurance when participating in an expedition. We also recommend that all participants take out travel insurance as well as trip cancellation and interruption insurance.

✅ Insurance saves trouble and costs in the event of damage. There are a few things to bear in mind and a distinction must be made as to whether you are taking part in an expedition or another trip.

Types of insurance:

✅ Evacuation insurance or Global Rescue membership (mandatory)

✅ General travel insurance for medical treatment (recommended)

✅ Trip cancellation and interruption insurance (strongly recommended to cover cancellation costs)

EVACUATION INSURANCE

✅ For expeditions over 6000m or in the event of an accident over 6000m, you will need mandatory evacuation insurance with cover for rescue and retrieval costs even over 6000m. These can be very high if helicopters and personnel are used. Nowadays, helicopter rescues up to almost 7000m are possible under certain conditions and have already been carried out successfully.

✅ We work closely with Global Rescue and recommend Global Rescue membership, which has established itself as the standard for international expeditions. Attention! Follow-up costs (e.g. medical treatment costs in a hospital etc.) are not included. Separate travel insurance must be taken out for follow-up costs.

✅ Confirmation of Global Rescue membership or confirmation of insurance cover must be received at least 3 months before the start of the expedition, as we need this for the permit application.

It is popular among mountaineers, adventurers, and travelers visiting remote destinations where emergencies are more challenging to manage.

GENERAL TRAVEL INSURANCe

✅ As a rule, general travel insurance should cover illness, accident insurance, baggage insurance, etc. This is definitely recommended by us, but – unlike mountain cost insurance – is not compulsory.

TRIP CANCELLATION AND INTERRUPTION INSURANCE

✅ Trip cancellation and interruption insurance is strongly recommended by us to cover cancellation costs.

✅ We recommend the “Signature Travel Insurance” from IMG. This covers cancellation, trip interruption, medical services, etc. The amount of the policy depends on the duration of the trip, the price of the trip, age, etc. There is also the upgrade option “Cancel/Interrupt for any reason”.

✅ Disaster Response: Assisting in natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes, offering relief and medical aid.

✅ Crisis Response: Supporting individuals or groups affected by political instability, terrorism, or other crises.

✅ Global Rescue is also the name of a private company that offers these services to individuals, corporations, and governments worldwide. They specialize in travel risk and crisis management, providing 24/7 access to medical and security services for travelers.

Some rescue teams, like Global Rescue or other elite units, collaborate with local authorities, military organizations, or private enterprises to ensure timely and efficient responses in emergencies.
