Celebrating a Legacy: 50 Years of Huascarán National Park Honored at Chimborazo’s Heights

The mountains teach us that greatness is not just measured in meters, but in the history and culture we preserve. During our recent expedition to Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador, Socorro Andino Peruano and Peru Expeditions carried out a tribute that transcends borders: celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Huascarán National Park.

A Bridge Between Giants: Chimborazo and Huascarán

Standing at one of the most extreme points on the planet, our founder Eric Albino chose this symbolic location to honor the “Roof of Peru.” Along with the installation of high-speed Starlink internet for the refuge, a special book donation was made, creating a symbolic bridge between the iconic peaks of Ecuador and the sacred glaciers of the Cordillera Blanca.

Mountain, Knowledge, and the Future

We believe that safety in the mountains begins with education. This gesture was more than a gift; it was a commitment to:

  • Mountain Culture: Sharing the rich history of the Peruvian Andes with the international climbing community.

  • Knowledge: Ensuring that those who visit the high refuges have access to the wisdom and stories of our protected natural areas.

  • The Future: Inspiring new generations of mountaineers to climb with respect, awareness, and a sense of stewardship for our national parks.

50 Years of Conservation and Adventure

For half a century, Huascarán National Park has been a sanctuary for biodiversity and a playground for world-class mountaineering. Celebrating its golden jubilee from the slopes of Chimborazo reminds us that the Andean range is a single heart beating across South America.
